The South Island's West Coast has had a rough beginning to the morning with a shallow tremor awakening the locale.


A greatness 4.7 tremor struck close to Greymouth in the early long stretches of Tuesday morning.


GeoNet said it had a profundity of 5km and was found 10km upper east of Greymouth.

The tremor struck at 1:52am.


More than 1,000 individuals have answered to GeoNet that they felt the tremor, with the greater part saying there was moderate, powerless or light shaking.

At the hour of composing, 1007 individuals had self-answered to GeoNet as having felt the quake. One said it felt serious, 30 in number, 281 moderate, 453 light and 242 said it was powerless.


The shake was accounted for to be felt all around the west shoreline of the South Island, with solid shakes kept in the Arthurs Pass and Hokitika.
